Before they were grandparents, they were bouncing on their grandparents’ knee.
See that chubby lil’ boy on the old man’s knee? That’s my grandfather on his grandfather’s knee. It’s an amazing photo that’s very near and dear to our family. There are several stories about how we came to have a photo from the mid-20s. Either way, I love having it.

Before they were grandparents, they were caretakers.
I’ve seen people share their photos of great-grandparents and had to add mine to the collection. I was lucky to have met my great grandmother, though I was far too young to have gotten to know her. But what I do know, is that she was an unfailingly caring person. And it only makes sense that she was a critical care nurse back when medical technology was less than sophisticated.

Before they were grandparents, they were snowed in.
I know, this is hardly the photo we want to see right now. My great-grandfather worked on Granville Street in Vancouver as a shop boy in the early 1920s, fairly close to when this photo was taken. It was always a favourite of his because, as my mom tells me, whenever his grandchildren would complain about a snowfall (or the weather in general), he would take out the photo and start to tell stories of “how it was back in the day”.
And you thought stories about walking up hill both ways in a snowstorm were just in the movies.

Before they were grandparents, they were budding style icons.
Grandmere Josette as a small girl. I love the 1920’s clothing (The tiny purse! The bow! The locket! Ahh!)
